About the University

The University of Westminster traces its history back to 1838, when it was founded as the Royal Polytechnic Institution — the first polytechnic to open in London — and received its royal charter the following year. Its modern form came from the 1971 merger of the Holborn College of Law, Languages and Commerce with the Regent Street Polytechnic, and it became the University of Westminster in 1992.

Location

The university’s main campus is on Regent Street in central London, with further campuses in Fitzrovia, Marylebone, and Harrow. Its Regent Street base places students in one of central London’s best-known shopping and business districts.
