About the University
The University of West London traces its roots to 1860, when the Lady Byron School was founded, later becoming Ealing College of Higher Education. It became a university as Thames Valley University in 1992, following several mergers, and took its current name in 2010.
Location
The university is based across campuses in Ealing and Brentford, in West London, with a further campus in Reading, Berkshire. This gives it a footprint in the Thames Valley area to the west of central London, rather than a single central London site.
What Students Can Study
The university is organised into nine schools, including business, hospitality and tourism, computing and engineering, music, nursing and healthcare, law, and film, media and design. Specific course content, structure, and entry requirements vary by school and should be checked directly with the university.
Why Students Consider This University
Students often consider West London for its practical, industry-facing subject areas — including hospitality, nursing, and music — combined with a West London and Thames Valley setting, a quieter alternative to studying in central London while remaining well connected to it.
