Filipino applicants usually arrive with one of two qualifications: a Senior High School Diploma, or a completed four-year bachelor’s degree. Which one you hold decides most of what follows.
The Philippines moved to a K-12 structure under Republic Act 10533, and the first Senior High School cohort graduated in 2018. The Senior High School Diploma is awarded after Grade 12, on an academic, technical-vocational, sports or arts track. UK universities set their own entry rules for it. In practice the routes are a foundation programme or, where a university accepts the diploma on its own, entry straight into year one. Which one you are offered depends on the university, your track and your grades, so check the specific course rather than trusting a general rule you read anywhere, including here.
A four-year Philippine bachelor’s degree is the qualification most Filipino applicants use for master’s entry. Where a university judges there is a gap, a pre-master’s course is the usual bridge.
English, and why an English-taught degree is not the end of the question
English is an official language of the Philippines and the normal medium of instruction in Philippine higher education. That does not automatically satisfy a UK university’s English requirement. Some universities accept a Philippine degree taught in English as evidence. Others still ask for a test score. It is set by the university, not by the country you studied in, so confirm it on the course page before you pay for a test you may not need, or skip one you do.
Nursing: two different routes, often confused
This is the point that costs Filipino applicants the most time. Studying nursing in the UK and registering an existing Philippine nursing qualification in order to work here are separate processes, handled by different organisations.
A UK nursing degree leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. That is the study route, and it is covered in our nursing guide.
If you already hold a BSN and your goal is to work as a nurse in the UK rather than study again, that is an NMC overseas registration question and an employer question. It is not a university application, and no admissions service can turn it into one. We would rather tell you that at the start than take you through an application that was never going to get you where you wanted to go.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I enter a UK bachelor's degree directly with a Senior High School Diploma?
Sometimes. It depends on the university, the track you completed and your grades. Some accept the diploma for direct entry to year one, others ask for a foundation year first. The course page is the only reliable answer.
Is a four-year Philippine bachelor's degree accepted for a UK master's?
It is the qualification most Filipino applicants use for master’s entry. Universities assess degrees individually rather than by country, so confirm against the specific course.
Do I still need IELTS if my degree was taught in English?
Possibly not, but that is the university’s call. Many accept an English-taught Philippine degree as evidence. Others require a test regardless. Check before booking one.
I am already a registered nurse in the Philippines. Can you place me in an NHS job?
No. We are an admissions service for university study, not a recruitment agency for nursing posts. Working in the UK on a Philippine nursing qualification goes through NMC registration and an employer, which is a different process entirely.
What does it cost to apply through StudyUKToday?
Nothing. Students are not charged. We are paid by our recruitment partner when a referred student enrols.
How far ahead should I start?
Earlier than most people expect. Document gathering, English evidence and university deadlines rarely line up neatly, and the students who struggle are usually the ones who started late rather than the ones with weaker grades.
