About the University
The University of the West of England traces its more recent institutional roots to the Merchant Venturers’ Technical College, founded in Bristol in the 1890s, and the Bristol Polytechnic, formed in 1969 from a merger of several Bristol colleges. It was granted university status in 1992. It is the largest provider of higher education in South West England.
