The University of Strathclyde was founded in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute, making it Glasgow’s second-oldest university. It received its royal charter in 1964 as the first technological university in the UK, having operated under names including the Royal College of Science and Technology.

The university’s John Anderson Campus is self-contained in Glasgow city centre, spanning the Townhead and Merchant City areas.
