About the University
The University of Aberdeen was founded in 1495 as King’s College, making it one of Scotland’s four ancient universities. Its current form dates from 1860, when King’s College merged with Marischal College. It was part of the Scottish Enlightenment alongside the universities of St Andrews, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
