Lincoln is a cathedral city in Lincolnshire, built on the site of the Roman settlement of Lindum Colonia. Its old town, on a hill above the modern city centre, contains many medieval and Roman-era listed buildings. StudyUKToday works with one real university here.
What Lincoln Is Actually Like
Lincoln Cathedral, with its earliest sections dating to 1072, was the tallest building in the world for over two centuries, from 1311 to 1548. Lincoln Castle, built by William the Conqueror on the site of an earlier Roman fortress, is one of only two castles in England with two mottes, and houses one of just four surviving originals of the 1215 Magna Carta. The city’s old town contains 447 listed buildings, reflecting its long Roman, medieval, and Georgian history.
Lincoln’s main campus sits by the Brayford Pool, a waterside setting close to the city centre and its historic uphill area.
